Jad Bou Karam aka “OH MY JAD” is a Lebanese comedian, actor, and TV host. OH MY JAD is particularly famous for his witty jokes and smart puns. Together, we have worked on a pair of socks translating OHMYJAD’s signature humor. The “My life socks without you” Sikasok, which was initially exclusively available at Exotica, quickly grew to be a Valentine’s favorite and was added to our permanent collection in March 2019. Internet sensation El 3ama has gained national fame and appraise by making satirical videos in which he comments on the absurdity of Lebanese society. El 3ama’s videos are funny and insightful, tackling controversial issues like corruption and injustice. Yet, he remains hopeful for change as he inspires viewers to take action and not let themselves be fooled. And since at Sikasok, we share El3ama’s vision to inspire people to create change, it felt natural to collaborate with him. We designed three pairs of socks with El3ama, one of which is Deer El3ama, a Sikasok meant to grant wishes. Beirut Pride is a collaborative platform that takes a positive stance against hate and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. We launched our collaboration with Beirut Pride shortly after Valentine’s day, highlighting that love is beyond and above all. “الحب أقوى” – “love is stronger”. The font used for this pair was developed by Lebanese designer Ghiya Haidar as the Arabic equivalent of the Gilbert font; a typeface inspired by artist and LGBT activist Gilbert Baker. We are the first Arab brand to make socks that feel good and look good. We imagine wild patterns inspired by our heritage and our daily lives, mixed with vibrant, modern colors. Our Sikasoks resemble us and we feel confident wearing them.
